ABOUT US
Advocating for Railroad Families Since 1887
Founded in 1887, the BLET Auxiliary brings together spouses, family members, and supporters of railroad workers to educate, advocate, and stand up for rail labor families.
We are a national, nonprofit organization working alongside the BLET to raise awareness about rail safety, workplace conditions, and the impact these issues have on families and communities. Our members engage in outreach, advocacy, and public action—often speaking out where rail employees cannot.
Rooted in history and driven by purpose, the BLET Auxiliary is committed to supporting safer workplaces and a stronger quality of life for railroad families.
The Benefits of belonging to the Auxiliary
Honoring Our Legacy, Supporting Our Members
Established in 1921, the Care and Assistance Program (CAP) honors the legacy of our long-time members who have dedicated their lives to the railroad industry.
CAP provides direct financial assistance to qualifying members—many of whom are elderly and living on limited incomes—helping cover basic needs and small comforts that make a meaningful difference.
From essentials like warm clothing to support during difficult times, CAP stands as a reminder that our members are valued, respected, and never forgotten.
Investing in Education and Opportunity
Established in 1981, the BLET Auxiliary Scholarship Program supports higher education for the children of BLET and Auxiliary members, as well as eligible Auxiliary members pursuing their own educational goals.
The program awards $1,000 scholarships to qualified applicants accepted to or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school. Scholarships are funded through member dues, local auxiliary contributions, fundraising efforts, and private donations.
In addition, two $2,500 scholarships are awarded annually through the Locomotive Engineers and Conductors Mutual Protective Association (LECMPA) to eligible applicants whose parent is a BLET and LECMPA member.
Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, and personal accomplishment, with continued eligibility tied to maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
Stay Informed. Stay Connected.
Our National Auxiliary newsletters and updates keep members informed, connected, and engaged with the work happening across the country.
Through regular communications, we share important announcements, program updates, event information, and advocacy efforts affecting railroad families nationwide.
These updates help strengthen communication between the National Auxiliary and local auxiliaries, ensuring members stay informed, involved, and united in our shared mission.
Unity and Support
You get unity and support families who share the railroad lifestyle, creating a strong network of connection, understanding, and mutual support.
By fostering relationships among spouses, family members, and supporters, we provide a space to share experiences, exchange information, and support one another through the unique challenges of rail work.
Through education, outreach, and community-building efforts, we strengthen family bonds, promote resilience, and reinforce the collective strength of railroad families.
Legislative and Mobilization Programs
Our Legislative and Mobilization programs focus on driving meaningful change at the government level by educating policymakers, supporting pro-worker legislation, and mobilizing communities to take action.
Through advocacy, public outreach, and coordinated grassroots efforts, we amplify the voices of railroad families and allies to influence decisions that impact workplace safety, labor rights, and the well-being of our communities.
